Micro fracture failed now onto DeNovo...
« on: October 25, 2017, 10:27:57 AM »
Hi all,

I was diagnosed with OCD of the Talus in my right ankle in April of 2016 after a work injury. In March of 2017 I had the debridement and micro fracture surgery on a large defect. I was non weight bearing for almost 3 months and then when I started PT it was a struggle with the giving out and locking up. After 7 months recovering from surgery, I was running, jumping, etc but with the constant locking and giving out. My surgeon said its time to do the DeNovo procedure, which I have scheduled for next month. He said if I had a desk job he would release me to work, but since my job requires physical activity he wants me to get this surgery. So after this surgery I will have been out of work for almost 14 months by the time I recover from this. Has anyone had the DeNovo procedure and how was the recovery and results?  Thank you!

Hi JPoul
I'm new here and recently got OCD in my left ankle. I've been trying on PT but dit not help.
Just decided to go for surgery. Unfortunately, local surgeons here can only reccommend MF. I has not yet any surgery experience to give some advice. All I learn about OCD and accociated treatments comes from searching on Internet and reading through the forum.
There are quite many threads in here talking about Denovo so you can pick up some clues.
From what I learn I won't start with MF for low sucess and not sustainable cartilage. Hence only OATS is available for me though this procedure is not common locally. OATS is again the last chance of surgery.
When reading about Denovo and Biocartilage with BMAC, I see promising but too far ahead as nothing about these procedures taken in the region. Don't know when it comes. I talked to surgeons here they say I just googling and asking too much.
I also think before locking down to OATS, I would fly to America to see some specialist surgeons there about Denovo, Biocartilage..whether I have good chance of success with them. Not sure I can make it.
There are not available many official clinical reports for Denovo in the long term, mainly taken in America, or EU. You should investigate more about the success before making decision.
Just want to highlight some complications with this procedure so you can take account. They are integration cadaver cartilage and native one, overgrowth, hypo trophy as critical
Not much to share. Best luck with your movement
