OCD Newbie
« on: August 22, 2012, 03:42:10 PM »
Hello!

I'm a 20-year-old college volleyball player with an OCD in my right knee from a car accident back when I was 16. My orthopedic surgeon chose not to do any kind of surgery when I was first injured because my growth plate had not finished closing up. Well, now I'm experiencing a lot more pain than ever before. The trainer as my college thinks volleyball and the motions involved are aggravating the condition, and that not getting surgery soon will result in early onset osteoarthritis and a knee replacement needed at a young age. I work in a physical therapy clinic and want to avoid a knee replacement at all costs. My main problem is money, unfortunately. Does anyone out there have some kind of advice or suggestions? I would really appreciate it, as I'm pretty much clueless aside from what the docs have told me. Thanks!

Kim

Wow, sorry to hear about that. and welcome to ocd forums.

First and foremost, please stop playing volleyball.

Do you have health insurance? You need to:
 1) get an MRI
 2) see a doctor.
That shouldn't cost too much money if you have health insurance (Surgery is another story, but you can cross that bridge later).

Have the doctor analyze the MRI and give his recommendation.

Possible options are ACI surgery.
