Ankle / Re: The OCD Book
« on: February 12, 2017, 08:02:58 AM »
I had surgery June 30, 2016 for a small OCD lesion in right ankle. Normal recovery stuff from doc and went to PT. I am now 7 months post-op and having pain that feels similar to what I felt BEFORE the surgery. I'm pretty frustrated. I was hoping to get back into some cardio. My PT guy gave me steps to get back to running. EVERYONE along the way has said I can. I tried 2 minutes (that was not a typo) this past week. There was no pain, only sort of pressure. In other words, I can feel the muscles/tendons/whatever responding to the extra impact, but it isn't painful at all. After reading a thread on here, now I'm wondering if I shouldn't try this until I hit a year or something. Or maybe I should go back to PT? This is extremely challenging given the long road I've already been done (6-7 weeks NWB, 6 weeks boot, 5 weeks brace, PT...). I've been released from OS for 3 months or so. Wondering if I'll ever feel normal again. I will say that I am able to walk without much difficulty (many days over 10,000 steps so says my Fitbit). I notice that I have more pain when I wear shoes that have lift in the heel or a strap across the ankle. Any feedback would be helpful.

Hi all. I'm just wondering if any of you can give me an update. Dan - I'm about 7 months out and having the same issues you did. I tried running this past week for just two minutes. I know that sounds sad but I wanted to be super careful, and when I ran, I felt it. It wasn't pain per se, but I felt it. The muscles, tendons or whatever inside were reacting to the impact. It definitely felt good to go back to cardio! So I'm just wondering if any of you guys can tell me how you are one year, two years or whatever post-surgery. I do still have intermittent pain. I've noticed that I get it more if I wear shoes that have some heal to them (not high heels, just shoes where my heal is higher than the front of my foot). I have been released from the doctor since ~3 months ago and I had PT for about 3-4 weeks. It was helping but I got a puppy that needed to be taken out every 2 hours plus it was getting super expensive so I stopped. Should I go back? I guess to a certain extent the pain now is still normal? Just hoping anyone out there can tell me it gets better. Everyone I've ever asked at the orthopedic clinic told me absolutely, 100% I can go back to running. I should add that my lesion was pretty small. We never even saw it on the MRI. The surgery was exploratory. They only found it when they went in. Now I'm wondering if I should have just dealt with the intermittent pain. I could run with no problem before the surgery (I wasn't a long-distance runner, only 4-8 miles a week). Anyway, like I said, just hoping for positive updates! I definitely like to run for health, weight loss when necessary (just had a baby a couple of years ago), etc.
